Amanda Schey, a first-grade teacher at Weirton Elementary School, has been nominated by her peers as WES’s Teacher of the Year for Hancock County Schools. Mrs. Schey is a dedicated educator who brings passion, experience, and a deep commitment to her students and school community.
Here is a little about Mrs. Schey in her own words:
My name is Mrs. Schey, and I have been teaching for more than 13 years. I earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from West Liberty State College in West Liberty, WV, and a master’s degree in education from Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio. Over the years, I have taught first through sixth grade, and I am currently a first-grade teacher at Weirton Elementary in Hancock County, WV.
I reside in Wellsburg, WV, with my husband of 25 years, our two children, and our two dogs. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy cheering on my children in whatever sport they are currently participating in. I also enjoy serving my community whenever I can, both personally and through the Christian Women’s Connection and Blanket Brigade groups that I belong to at church.
I truly feel that teaching is my calling and life’s work, and I have a passion and commitment to shaping lives and future generations.
