February Reflex Math Challenge
This February, Weirton Elementary School is excited to kick off two fun and motivating math challenges designed to build strong fact fluency skills for students in Kindergarten through 4th grade.
Grades 1β4: February Fact Fluency Competition
From February 2 - February 27, students in grades 1β4 will participate in a schoolwide Reflex Fact Fluency Challenge, working daily to earn their βgreen lightβ and strengthen math fact automaticity.
Classroom progress will be checked each Friday, and weekly grade-level classroom leaders will be celebrated with a video announcement and a sign displayed outside their classroom doors. This friendly competition encourages perseverance, consistency, and a positive attitude toward math.
Kindergarten: Fact Fluency February β Counting & Cardinality Challenge
Our kindergarten students will head out on a math adventure of their own! Throughout February, kindergarteners will use Freckle to work through nine levels of Counting & Cardinality, building strong foundational number sense skills such as counting objects, matching numbers to quantities, and understanding βhow manyβ.
As students complete all nine levels, they will earn a Counting & Cardinality Camel Badge, proudly displayed in the hallway on a desert-themed backdrop. When an entire class completes all levels, the class will earn a Class Camel Badge to display outside their classroom door!
These February challenges are designed to make math engaging, visible, and celebratory while encouraging growth and confidence at every level. We canβt wait to cheer on our students as they count it, master it, and earn it all month long!
